The provider explored the idea of responsible gambling in one of the most prosperous markets. The research investigated entertainment brands and legislation. Based on the collected data, 70% of participants reported playing online in the last several months.

Gambling in Latin America had different levels of popularity within the last half a year:

• Argentina (53%). The local punters demonstrate a moderate interest in wagering, with 90% claiming they are responsible players and that these activities do not have a negative impact on their lives. The latest World Cup boosted the national market, producing $35 billion in bets.
• Brazil (60%). Sports wagering was taken under control thanks to Provisional Measure 1.182/2023. For now, it remains one of the most appealing markets for bookmakers.
• Chile (68%). More than 900 iGaming sites are officially certified by the local authorities. The market produces $170 million in annual income.
• Colombia (75%). There are 17 registered operators, which have over 8 million users. The profit of gambling jumped from $1.7 billion in 2020 to $4 billion in 2022.
• Peru (82%). The country boasts the most adventurous players in the region. This trend does not seem to decline soon.

The dynamics of digital gambling depend on economic and cultural aspects. To learn the current progress, Playtech analysed the public perception of the entire industry as part of the research.

Gambling Behavioural Patterns

Users consider numerous factors when choosing an online adventure. Based on the report data, 49% name a lack of anxiety as the primary indicator of responsible play. Peru (57%), Colombia (54%) and Chile (51%) demonstrated the largest figures in this regard.

In Brazil, punters pay primary attention to gambling on credible platforms (60%), which determines the need for detailed regulations. Content legality is also a crucial aspect in Colombia (52%), which relies on a series of laws. This stands in opposition to Argentina (29%), Chile (32%) and Peru (38%), where legislative norms are less valuable for locals.

The fun aspect of gambling is an absolute priority for Colombians (55%) and Peruvians (52%). Its relevance is less striking for Argentinians (46%) and Chileans (46%), where people have to deal with a complex economic situation.
